The purpose of this website is to assist Śrīla Prabhupāda in the publication of his original books and unadulterated writings for the benefit of all sincere students and truth seekers.
Śrīla Prabhupāda wanted his books also distributed by modern media, such as press, television, radio, movies, etc. and stated the following:
Śrīla Prabhupāda: "So go on with your organization and distribution of my books through press and other modern media and Krishna will certainly be pleased with you. We can use everything -- television, radio, movies, or whatever there may be -- to tell about Krishna, and outside of devotional service all these modern paraphernalia are just so much rubbish." (Letter to Bhagavān Dāsa, 24 November 1970)
Our main goal at bagavadgita.org is to assist Śrīla Prabhupāda in his personal preaching on the internet. We also hope to help his disciples and aspiring disciples come together on the basis of his books and preach the pure message Śrīla Prabhupāda has given to us for the world.
Everything is in the books of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda. By reading Śrīla Prabhupāda's books, following the four regulations, abstinence from meat-eating, gambling, intoxication, and illicit sex, and by chanting the mahā-mantra, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare, everyone can benefit and become perfect.
Śrīla Prabhupāda: "This, our book distribution, is the most important task of our society. Therefore I am giving so much stress and I am working so hard on this. This is my life and soul according to the order of my Guru Mahārāja. By his grace it is to some extent successful. And I took it seriously. I still take it seriously now. That is my life and soul. I never tried in India to construct big temples, and even in your country we didn't. I never tried. But I was personally selling books. That is the history." (Room conversation, Bombay, 31 December 1976)
The purpose of bagavadgita.org is to enlighten people with the spiritual information given by Śrīla Prabhupāda in his original books and writings.
Śrīla Prabhupāda: "Regarding Saṅkīrtana and book distribution, book distribution is also chanting. Anyone who reads the books that is also chanting and hearing. Why distinguish between chanting and book distribution? These books I have recorded and chanted, and they are transcribed. It is spoken kīrtanas. So book distribution is also chanting. These are not ordinary books. It is recorded chanting. Anyone who reads, he is hearing. Book distribution must not be neglected." (S.P.L. to Rūpānuga dāsa, 19th October, 1974)
